The battle of operating systems... Mac OS X vs. Ubuntu

Ok, now it's uncommon for a 12 year old kid to have all 3 but I say that I am an uncommon 12 year old kid but besides the point: I have used and own all 3 operating systems and I want to share with you my thoughts on each. In this blog post, I will be doing just that. Hit "read more" to read this post!

Okay... so we all know of OS X, Ubuntu and Windows to be the world's most widely used operating systems but how often do we put all 3 of them together? Not too much but in this post I will.

Let's start off with OS X...
OS X turns out to be my most favoured operating system as it is based on UNIX and has such a large community behind it i.e. there are many, many applications for OS X vs. Ubuntu as people don't develop as much for Ubuntu. Usually if there is a software that works on Windows, the developer has made an edition of OS X. Yes, this applies to Microsoft themselves as Office for Mac is available and Skype too (Microsoft bought Skype).

OS X is very simple to use, it isn't very sophisticated it "just works", just look at System Preferences, and you'll see how straight forward it is.

OS X is built about UNIX, UNIX is perhaps the best software base as it is used by both Ubuntu and Mac etc. plus is an industry standard.

OS X was the successor to OS 9, Apple's OS in the late 90s/early 00s It has a sleek GUI that in my opinion is by far the most easiest to use and multitasking is a whole new thing, up to 16 desktops, full screen apps and gestures, there is no better platform for professionals to deploy their skills and enjoy their work.

Next up: Ubuntu...
Ubuntu is Linux's most common operating system, it is also the only one of the 3 that is FREE, yes, that's right, there is no catch.

Ubuntu is very commonly used by professionals for web development as by far, my experience with Apache on Ubuntu is a million times better than on Windows or even OS X. OS X and Ubuntu can be used to control each other via SSH as both their command lines (Terminal) are the same and based on UNIX. On Ubuntu you would Install OpenSSH and on Mac there are other ways - I have never used it since the upgrade to Mountain Lion.

Installing system plugins is the easiest on Ubuntu as you simply run a command from Terminal and you are instantly downloading and installing whatever software you want:
apt-get install whatever_product
The removal process is equally easy:
apt-get remove whatever_product
apt-get purge whatever_product
Now that you have seen both the best bits of OS X and Ubuntu so lets move on:

Lease favourite: Windows...
Windows is perhaps the worst commercial software imaginable... there is no ease in installing apps, running servers. IIS is only good if you want to use ASP.NET but even then, PHP seems to be a better option as the other operating systems fully support it.

As of today, there is no official to the public app store, there is however, the "Windows Store" coming up with Windows 8.

Personally, it does have a shiny looking GUI that beats Ubuntu but Mac matches that with spring loaded folders, the superb dock and Spotlight search that saves using Windows' Instant Search.

Windows does have an advantage - that it is a lot easier to modify - but this isn't very useful and is the reason that hackers can make viruses a lot more easily for Windows than they can for Mac.

Ubuntu is like the better version of android, however I believe that Windows 7 and 8 are better than all of them.
